1-Live Theater and 2-Simulcast Theaters
As our region and country begin the process of reopening, our staff is following a phased reopening plan that mirrors the strategy outlined by the government. In-person worship gatherings began for CG on Sunday, August 16 at the Desert Sky Cinema. In addition, CG is providing a Church Online experience each weekend as an option for everyone who can't be with us in person.

When will in-person gatherings resume?

LIMITED in-person gatherings began on August 16. While we expect our phased approach to open to line up with the phases that have been laid out by the government, everything hinges on the health of our community and the CDC’s recommendations. We will only advance through these phases as Pima County meets the government’s benchmarks to continue reopening.

What will the limited gatherings look like?

We have resumed our in-person gathering with limited weekend experience that keeps our community’s safety in mind. While we expect our in-person gatherings to feel the same when we reach Phase 4, like the rest of society, we expect that the way we interact with each other will look at little different for a while. We’re going to continue to modify the parts of our services that required physical contact before (such as passing offering baskets and greeting each other with handshakes), and we’re doing everything we can to keep our facilities clean and safe.

Even if you see more face masks (and a lot more hand sanitizer), when we gather together again in- person, we hope it will feel like coming home. During these limited gatherings, we will take every precaution according to guidance from the health department.

When will in-person gatherings resume?

Please arrive early enough to check-in upon arriving. We ask that you and your family do your best to manage a healthy distance between you and others. Please wait patiently and maintain a distance of 6 feet between your group and others while cheking in and waiting to be seated. Look for one of our friendly volunteers if you need assistanc eor have any questions.

Wearing Masks

MASKS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED and advised when people are in public places as of Friday, June 19 in accordance with decisions by our local government. Disposable masks will be available if need one and can be found in the lobby area as you enter the building. We will not be taking temperatures of people attending. All volunteers and staff will wear masks.

Please allow our greeters to open all doors for you (with the exception of restroom doors).  When you enter the building, and after check-in, ushers will promptly help you find an available seat in one of our theaters. Seats are marked off to encourage physical distancing. We ask that you keep at least 2 seats between your group and others. Ushers will Be there to help you find seats. There will be hand sanitizer stations available throughout the Worship Center (theaters).

Seats are marked off to encourage physical distancing. Ushers will help you find seats. Our plans are to be able to accommodate 150+ people per service hour (10 AM) with seating available in 3 different theaters (ONE WITH LIVE WORSHIP & OTHERS WITH A SIMULCAST ON SCREEN). The main theater will be seated to capacity first, then followed by the overflow theaters.

We encourage you and your family to freely worship but to remain in your area and practice good social distancing conduct. The worship centers (theaters) and all common areas will be sanitized before and after each worship experience. Once the main theater designated for live worship is full there will be seating available in the overflow theater which will show a simulcast of worship on screen.

Interaction with others

Please practice safe social distancing. Please refrain from using handshakes or giving hugs. Let’s save our hugs for home. Instead, wave, smile, or say hello! Although you may feel comfortable shaking hands, many people may not, so please help us make everyone feel comfortable and safe.

We do have 2 restrooms available for use at the theater. The restrooms will be cleaned and disinfected before service. There will be hand soap available to wash hands. Bathroom access will be limited to 1-2 individuals at a time (and we will disinfect restrooms after every use). Remember: wash your hands well for at least 20 seconds.

At this time, we’re not having communion in our services. We are investigating the best way for us to offer it moving forward and will update you on that as we can.

We encourage everyone to give using one of our online options (app or website). If you wish to give by check, please visit one of the giving boxes located in the lobby or in one of the theaters. You can also mail tithes & offerings to our office.

Instructions for dismissal will be given from the stage at the end of each service. After exiting the building, please practice social distancing out front or in the parking lot if you do visit with folks.

Coffee & Food

We will not be serving coffee or food at this time. Feel free to bring your own screw top water bottle.

We are asking attenders to help us with knowing who all attends one of oue service by checking in before each worship gathering. By doing so you will help the staff with any necessary follow-up. Check-in allows us to contact attendees in the event that we learn of a COVID-19 case from someone else who attended the same day. We ask attendees to self-screen before attending a service. Anyone experiencing fever, cough, or other COVID-19 symptoms should not attend. Vulnerable populations should not attend. Thank you!

please Remember to

  • Stay 6ft apart
  • Use hand sanitizer
  • Wear a face mask
  • Stay home if you’re sick

Common Ground, thank you for your continued generosity and service during these difficult days. Remember, this is about phasing back into our gatherings, meaning, it’s fluid and some measures are temporary. We will be implementing necessary safeguards in order to keep all CGers and guests healthy as we reopen in-person gatherings. Your church leadership will continue to monitor Covid-19 updates and will adjust our plans accordingly in an appropriate and safe manner. We invite you to pray with us as we resume our in-person services and consider when it is wise to reopen our CG KiDS programming. Please stay up-to-date on our app, website and emails for ongoing communication. Please remain flexible!
